Valve has been focusing primarily on its Steam store platform and existing live-service games like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Dota 2, and the struggling Artifact card game. Either way the wait for Half-Life 3 has been long and winding for fans. The wait for Half-Life 2: Episode 3 (or Half-Life 3) has been so long that Half-Life writer Marc Laidlaw, who left Valve in 2016, published what appeared to be a story summary of the mysterious third episode. The joke being that Newell refuses to acknowledge the number that has hounded him and Valve for as long as Half-Life 2: Episode 3 has been teased. ![]() In a video ad for the Gabe Newell Mega Kills Pack for Dota 2, there was a joke that Newell was physically incapable of saying the number three. Newell has a history of making jokes about Half-Life 3.
